How to Get out of a rut
We've all been there at one point or another, that moment in life where we feel like we simply can't get out of our rut. That feeling of being stuck, lacking motivation, perhaps depressed and even some embarrassment.
Our ruts can be caused by both circumstantial as well as chemical, so I encourage you to read on but also be conscious and aware that a visit to your doctor is a great way to ensure you're completely healthy and going in the right direction.
I was going to write this long and detailed post on how to get out of a rut, a post that would include both psychological facts and life experience, merging them together, both which would help the purpose of this weeks post. But since I am indeed putting together a book I will leave the in depth detailed information for just that, and today I will give you straight forward, in your face beans.
The most important point I'd like to make is that to proceed in getting out of your rut you need to be TRUTHFUL, if you are reading this you most likely have taken this step. We must be honest with ourselves and accept our situation and feelings, don't lie to yourself, it's OK. You will get through this rut and out of it!
Step One (officially)
Break bad habits. I read somewhere that being in a rut, believe it or not, is learnt. Our brains run on auto pilot a lot of the time. We can demand, impose and achieve change in ourselves by simply taking control and reforming habits. You will need to learn self control strategies that you can convert into tools that can be of help for reshaping and building these new habits. Replace the old habit with a new one and repeat, repeat, repeat.
Step Two
Be around people! Most of us have the bad habit to close off, to hide from others and the world in our misery. Sometimes its caused by our embarrassment other times because people seem annoyed by our rut. First of all those people that get annoyed or bothered by you are NOT your true friends, these are not people you want around in your life. A true friend will let you go through the motions but kindly point you in the right direction and most of the time these friends have a magical way of making everything bright. You do however need to keep up that sunshine with your own efforts and will. But never be shy to ask for another boost.
Step Three
Forget about motivation and just take action already!
1.Why are you in a rut?
2.What do you want?
3.Write the steps necessary to achieve that
4.Change your FOCUS onto something else. It is so important to keep a positive vision not only about your future but about yourself too, and you have that power by simply changing your focus and getting shit done!
So let's stop our excuses, let's end the cycle to our rut here.
No more blaming bad genes, bad luck, and others.
Let's take personal responsibility, stand tall and move forward towards what we want and deserve!
Stay Fresh!
