How to set attainable goals
I have failed time and time again. Well that's promising you might be thinking in sarcastic tone. Haha!
I know exactly how to plan things and fail. Hence why I have learned and KEEP on learning how NOT to do goal planning.
So instead of telling you what you should do, I will tell you what hasn't worked for me. Why ? Because most people will paint a perfectly beautiful picture on how to plan your life, goals, week planners etc- then there's me, no bullshit reality type of gal.
I'm a list type of woman so we'll do this how I do best, point form list of what not to do. I won't waste your time and just get straight to it.
Let's go!
What NOT to do when setting goals in your planner whether for the week or month:
- don't forget to have a reason for these goals. Why do you want this?
- do not set too many goals at once, you will feel like shit about yourself for not attaining then all. When truth is you overpacked the shit out of your already busy life.
- don't forget to look over your goals daily. Don't just write them down in your monthly planner and then keep it closed. Have a weekly overview and a daily task check list.
- don't plan WHAT your goals are. Much rather, plan HOW you'll reach them. Write down each step no matter how small.
- don't make too many "health/success changes" goals at once. If you want to work on your self-care, family, social media, business, YouTube channel, book etc. DO NOT put them all down for that FIRST week when you're back and ready to get on track. Instead add ONE or two change at a time.
- DO NOT focus on just work goals. Ensure to put goals that bring you JOY above all else. Example of goals that being you joy: adventure, gardening, exercise, family.
- don't be to strict on your timeline. Due allow for delays, setbacks, breaks, life to be a part of the planning. Set longer completion times than what your "best case" scenario would want.
- Do not ever beat yourself up for not achieving a goal on time or as you pictured. View these "fails" as lessons that you can grow from, change your life for the best!
- Set goals for YOUR best interests not others'. We all have people who might want to have influence upon our goals, they might feel they know best what is best for you. However, your goals are YOURS, nobody else's. Be assertive- this doesn't make you a mean or disrespectful person. You can be polite and assertive. - don't forget to review your progress and celebrate every small accomplishment.
May this post be helpful to your journey.
